Le mingrélien est parlé à l’ouest de la Géorgie, où il est documenté et étudié depuis le début du XXème siècle (Nicolas Marr 1910). Une sélection de contes publiés en Géorgie entre 1914 et 2006 est traduite et glosée par Alexander Rostovtsev-Popiel, post-doc et Jesse Wichers Schreur, doctorant.
