Le tat musulman est proche du judéo-tat, langue des Juifs des Montagnes décrite par Authier (2012). Certains dialectes tat musulman parlés en Azerbaïdjan ont été documentés par Grjunberg (1963). Dans le cadre de ce projet, Murad Suleymanov a documenté celui du Shirvan, parlé dans les régions de Shamakhi et Ismailli. Des contes en dialecte de Qonaqkend publiés par Maqsud Haciyev (1995) ont été retranscrits en caractères latins par Gilles Authier en collaboration avec Murad Suleymanov, qui a glosé les textes et fourni leur traduction en anglais. Le dialecte de l’Absheron, parler de Surakhani, est représenté par des textes collectés par Nayiba Mammadova, et traités par Gilles Authier.
